October 2010 "AMH (anti mullerian hormone) testing" AMH (anti mullerian hormone) testing is now available. The hormone is released from granulosa cells around developing follicles. Higher levels indicate adequate ovarian reserve and an indirect way of roughly estimating the number of remaining follicles (and hence eggs) in the ovaries. Costs are around $70. "Oocyte freezing" Oocyte freezing is available for women hoping to preserve fertility prior to undergoing potentially irreversible surgery or chemotherapy treatment. It may also be useful for women who are not currently planning to start a family but who wish to store oocytes in case of possible future deterioration in fertility. Survival rates of the oocytes and fertilising rates make it a worthwhile option. |
